University life can be expensive, and sometimes the weekly shop just doesn’t stretch as far as you’d like. That’s where the Student Pantry at the AUB Library comes in. It’s a simple but powerful idea: a shelf of free food and essentials, available to anyone who needs a little extra support.
The Student Pantry is based inside the Library at AUB. It’s stocked with non-perishable items like pasta, rice, tinned soup, cereal, and toiletries, purchased by AUBSU or donated by staff, students and the local community. The idea is straightforward — take what you need, leave what you can. No questions asked, no sign-ups, and no judgement.
It’s run on trust and kindness, so if you’re having a tough week financially, you know there’s always something to tide you over. And if you happen to have extra, you can drop in a donation and support someone else. If you do drop a donation, please do put a date on it, so that we know its life span.
Food insecurity is a reality for many students, and it can impact your studies, wellbeing, and social life. Having access to free essentials right where you study means you don’t need to choose between buying lunch and paying for materials, or between groceries and a bus ticket home.
The Pantry also creates a sense of community. Students and staff contribute together, so it feels less like “charity” and more like a collective safety net — something we all benefit from at different times.
