Personal details (name, email, course, year of study) provided by Arts University Bournemouth to fulfil our legal responsibilities under the Education Act 1994.
Information you give us directly (joining societies, events, elections, surveys).
Technical data when you use our website (IP address, device, cookies).
We use your data to:
Provide membership services and opportunities.
Run elections and democratic processes in line with our Constitution & By-Laws.
Administer events, societies, and campaigns.
Communicate with you about SU services, if you’ve opted in.
We process your data under:
Legal obligation (Education Act 1994, charity law).
Contract (when you join a society or buy tickets).
Consent (email newsletters and marketing).
Legitimate interest (improving services and reporting on engagement).
AUB (to verify student status and support representation).
Third-party providers (e.g. Native.fm for events and OneChoice for elections) – only under strict data processing agreements.
Regulators (Charity Commission, Fundraising Regulator, HMRC) if legally required.
We keep data only as long as needed:
Membership data: for the duration of your AUBSU membership.
Event/society sign-ups: until the end of the academic year.
Financial records: 6 years (legal requirement).
You have the right to:

Correct inaccuracies.
Request deletion (where not legally required).
Withdraw consent for marketing.
