As members of Arts University Bournemouth Students’ Union (AUBSU), students are part of a community built on respect, creativity, and inclusion. This Code of Conduct sets out the standards of behaviour expected of members and the principles by which AUBSU operates.
Members are expected to:
Respect others – treat fellow students, staff, and the wider community with dignity and consideration.
Act responsibly – uphold the reputation of AUBSU and the University.
Promote inclusion – challenge discrimination and support diversity.
Engage democratically – participate constructively in elections, meetings, and decision-making.
Use resources wisely – respect SU property, spaces, and finances.
Members agree to:
Follow AUBSU’s Constitution, By-Laws, and policies.
Act safely at all times during SU events and activities.
Not engage in harassment, bullying, discrimination, or hate speech.
Respect decisions made through democratic processes.
Take responsibility for guests they bring to SU activities.
Minor breaches may be resolved informally through advice, mediation, or warnings.
Serious breaches may lead to suspension of SU rights (e.g. society membership, event access, or democratic participation).
In all cases, members retain the right to use the Complaints Policy if they believe disciplinary action is unfair.
Members must obey the law and AUBSU policies.
Where behaviour may constitute a criminal offence or breach of University policy, AUBSU will refer the matter to the competent authority and may take internal action in parallel.
This Code will be reviewed annually alongside the Complaints Policy and reported to the Trustee Board.
