Bournemouth’s nightlife is one of the best things about being a student here, from gigs to beach parties, there’s always something happening. But the best nights are the ones where everyone gets home safe and happy.

Before You Head Out

Charge your phone, plan your route home, and make sure you’ve got enough for a taxi or bus. The MoreBus app is great for checking late-night routes, or grab an annual student bus pass for cheaper travel all year.

Stick with your friends and if you get separated, have a meeting spot agreed in advance. Simple, but it saves a lot of stress at 2am!

Consent & Respect

Consent isn’t just about sex, it’s about respect. It should be clear, mutual and never assumed. You can always change your mind, and so can someone else. Looking after yourself also means making sure everyone around you feels safe too.

If something happens that doesn’t feel right, or you’re unsure, you can use AUB Report + Support to speak up confidentially or report anonymously.

For sexual health support, Sexual Health Dorset offers free contraception, STI testing, and advice.
Over the Rainbow specialises in LGBTQ+ inclusive care.

If you’ve experienced sexual violence or trauma, at AUB we have an expert wellbeing team with specialist advisors in sexual misconduct. They offer confidential support and advice. To speak to a Sexual Misconduct Advisor please email: misconduct@aub.ac.uk.

For general wellbeing support, you can book a session via AUB My Bookings, attend a drop in session from 10am-2pm Monday to Friday or email: wellbeing@aub.ac.uk.

Additionally, the University Retreat has drop in sessions from 2-9pm for if you are struggling with your mental health and potentially approaching a point of crisis.

Outside of the University, The Shores and STARS Dorset provide confidential medical and counselling support.

And if you ever need someone to talk to – day or night – the Connection Helpline (0800 652 0190) and Shout 85258 are always there.
